DISCUSSION
The spacecraft in the above artwork reflect the jet aircraft configurations of the
early 1950s. The artist simply replaced a jet engine with a rocket propulsion
system. Note that no air scoops exist on the rocketships. Unlike jets,
rockets must supply oxygen (in onboard tanks) for combustion. They cannot use
atmospheric oxygen since none exists in the vacuum of space.
