Perhaps, SPACE CADET was a forerunner of Tom Corbett Space Cadet stories. The above cover painting by Darrell Sweet is captivating. Created in the mid-seventies, the artist has the benefit of the state of the art in space technology of the era. The team of cadets gingerly trods atop a space vessel tethered to one another by a "rope." A wonderful rendering of a "two-wheeler" space station appears to the mid right of the painting. The space workers appear clad in Mercury era space suits rather than garments of the Apollo era. An interesting addition is the celular phone type of communicator attached to the sides of each cadet's helmet. The cadets appear to enjoy an attraction to the space vessel permitting them to walk about its surface. This is difficult to explain. At any rate, the cover depicts the teamwork which has proven essential to successful NASA shuttle missions.
